How many images
can I fit on a CD?
Images are
stored in a highly compressed format and the average document size is
around 35K. When using AutoSCAN in "TIF" mode, you can fit
approximately 12500 images per CD or around 90,000 per DVD. When using
"Signature" mode, the average document size increases to around
60k (7000 per CD or 56000 per DVD).
How much space
do I need on my server?
20GB of
free space is sufficient for a 500 episode/day practice to have 4 years
worth of on-line images.
How good is the
Image quality?
As a general rule, AutoSCAN produces documents of slightly better quality
than "Fine Mode" Fax images (220-250dpi). This is a trade off
between storage space and optimum image quality.
What barcode formats
are supported?
Support for
Codabar, Code39 and Code 25 (interleaved 2 of 5) are available with the
system. Code 128 may be available in the future at additional cost.
What happens when
there is a barcode read failure?
AutoSCAN has
a very simple manager for failed decodes.
AutoSCAN will report any failed barcodes as "problems." The
user clicks the "Fix Problems" button and the failed image(s)
are displayed on the screen one after another giving the user an opportunity
to manually enter the correct number.
What Scanners are
supported?
Although AutoSCAN
will support virtually any TWAIN interface, at the present time we recommend
the Canon DR Models: in particular, the DR-3060 or DR-3080.
What Operating
Systems are supported?
AutoSCAN will
run on Windows NT4 (not recommended), Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Windows
ME/98/95 are not supported.
How long will it
take to scan a days work?
At the cyclic
rate, a 500 episode per day practice could reasonably expect to scan the
days work in less than 35 minutes.
In the real world,
batches of requests would be scanned at, or before, data entry time. This
adds a few minutes per batch for the data entry staff spreading the load
over the whole day.
Do I still have
to keep the original request forms after they have been scanned?
No. AutoSCAN
will make it possible to discard request forms after scanning. AutoSCAN
complies with the HIC's "Notice of Information Technology (IT) Standards
under the Electronic Transactions Act 1999" in all facets relating
to software. However, the practice must demonstrate that all aspects are
complied with before paper copies can be discarded.
You will need a Health
E-Signature Authority (HeSA) Location certificate from www.hesa.com.au.
How long will it
take to find and display an image on my Lab terminal?
Generally, less than
1 second. Even very old computers will be able to display images in less
than 5 seconds.
Can I access the
Images from our IntraNet pages?
Yes. AutoSCAN's Web interface utility allows casual access to images
(by reference/episode number) from any Web browser. The web interface
is customisable and allows integration with any system capable of calling
web pages.
Can I prevent images
from being viewed by certain staff?
Yes. AutoSCAN
has the ability to apply group level Windows Domain security to on-line
images.
