All data in MediPATH and MediRAD programs are protected by security. The level of security is determined by each site.

Each user is issued with an "Access" level ranging from 1 to 10. A ward enquiry, for example, would normally be around Level 3, while a Pathologist in the Laboratory may be a Level 8 and therefore be able to "validate" reports.

Access is further restricted by Menu - each user may have only a limited choice from the menu regardless of their "Access" level. For example, an accounts clerk who has been given a high level of security in order to change invoices may never have access via his menu to pathology results.

Both particular patients, such as staff members, and particular procedures, such as HIV may have restricted data access.

In general, only the System Manager has access to the system at Level 10 which allows management at the operating system level.
